Problem Of Permissions

In a database of test I found that to set up a monitoring tool (such as Nagios, Tivoli, BMC Patrol) gives errors when attempting to read files from diagnostic_dest directory. After conducting some research work I see the file group level file  is not correct (has asmadmin group). In fact this a Solaris cluster and the other node in the group if it is correct (osintall).

By assigning, from the root, this user group to solve the problem. But the right thing is to leave all files with the same group on all nodes of the cluster. To manually change the file group, and from the Oracle user, run the following command;

ls -lrt -R

### trimming the output
-rw-r----- 1 oracle11 asmadmin 221 May 6 10:12 ORCL_m000_13739.trm
-rw-r----- 1 oraCle11 asmadmin 1538 May 6 10:14 ORCL_m000_14038.trc
-rw-r----- 1 oraCle11 asmadmin 215 May 6 10:14 ORCL_m000_14038.trm
-rw-r----- 1 oraCle11 asmadmin 1538 May 6 10:19 ORCL_m000_16795.trc
-rw-r----- 1 oraCle11 asmadmin 221 May 6 10:19 ORCL_m000_16795.trm

chgrp -R oinstall ./orcl

ls -lrt -R

### trimming the output
-rw-r----- 1 oracle11 oinstall 221 May 6 10:12 ORCL_m000_13739.trm
-rw-r----- 1 oraCle11 oinstall 1538 May 6 10:14 ORCL_m000_14038.trc
-rw-r----- 1 oraCle11 oinstall 215 May 6 10:14 ORCL_m000_14038.trm
-rw-r----- 1 oraCle11 oinstall 1538 May 6 10:19 ORCL_m000_16795.trc
-rw-r----- 1 oraCle11 oinstall 221 May 6 10:19 ORCL_m000_16795.trm

Conclusions

– Research that could have happened and where it has been error or problem
– If we doubt about the installation the best is reinstall from scratch, of course, It can  not be possible, but better to lose an afternoon reinstalling that days with problems.
