ORA-1000 Maximum open cursors exceeded

The today’s error, ora-1000. This is a typical error in Oracle databases, especially when upgrades of applications are made, whether proprietary or third parties, which usually include new features that result in much more work in the database. There are two solutions, not always possible, especially in the case of third party applications.

  • Make an intelligent management of the cursor and close them when not needed.
  • Increase the parameter OPEN_CURSORS

We will use the following command to change;

ALTER SYSTEM SET open_cursors = 1850 SCOPE = BOTH;

NOTE;

Must take into account that may affect the SGA, because if the long climb open_cursor parameter SGA spending more memory for to dedicate it to the new cursors, please be carefull.
